3 TIPS YOU NEED TO DO RIGHT NOW (TO MAKE MUSIC YOUR CAREER)

Music brings you everything you could want in life, joy, inspiration, motivation, self-fulfillment and much more, so making it your career is your dream.

BUT, you’ve probably heard that succeeding in the music industry is like finding a needle in a haystack, while being blindfolded and wearing oven mitts. So what do you do? You turn music into a hobby, because you fear not being good enough, or failing or simply not knowing where to start.

You cannot succeed if you do not try. Remember that. No matter what happens, music will always be your hobby, that will never change, but the opportunity for you to make it your career starts now. Here are three things that you need to stop doing right now!

1. Stop Waiting for Someone to Discover You - No one and I mean NO ONE is going to offer you something life-altering without you doing hard work. I got another news flash for you, “if you send your music to enough people, eventually someone will offer you a deal” is a myth! It may lead to an opportunity, but one that you’ll have to work hard for (and probably won’t be in your favour) because the person offering it will have to put in more work to make up for you sitting back. Work hard now and do as much of the work as you can so if a label approaches you (or another opportunity), you’re already a star and can be picky with your terms.

2. Stop Saying “I’ll Get on that Tomorrow” - You know very well when you say that, you might as well say, “I don’t care enough to do it.” Think about this quote, “where would you be today, if you started yesterday?” You need to stop putting things off, because there is no better time to start that right now. Imagine if you started writing your new single yesterday, or if you took vocal lessons yesterday, or if you began learning how to mix yesterday, imagine how much closer to your goal you would be today. This is not supposed to make you feel like you wasted time, it is supposed to be a reminder that even if you don’t know what to do yet, a day of learning goes a long way.

3. Stop Making Excuses - “I don’t know how,” “I don’t have time,” “I wish I could.” I got breaking new for you, You Can Learn! Whenever you say “I can’t” or “I don’t know how,” follow it up with “yet” and work towards it. No one can do anything the first time they try it, but you will be amazed at how quickly you can learn something when you give it your full attention. But, “music is expensive.” You do not need the top of the line equipment off the bat. If you’re reading this, you probably have a camera, I already know you have a voice and music is nothing new, equipment has been around for a long time, go to a garage sale and pick up an old instrument. There you go, you have everything now to reach the world online. No excuses! It really comes down to how badly you want it. If you want to live your music dream, then you’ll make the time, take the sacrifices and work hard.
