AWARD WINNING VOCAL COACH TO THE WINNER OF "THE VOICE UK" SHARES SINGING TIPS

Vikki St Leger is an Award Winning Vocal Coach to the Winner of "The Voice UK" 2019 and many finalists and contestants on "The X-Factor." "Britain's Got Talent and "Little Mix, The Search."

In a recent video featured on the platform, St Leger advises you how to practice singing. "If you're not practicing the right things, you're not going to go anywhere," she said. It may sound harsh, but it's the truth.

St Leger explains that if you're an instrumentalist, it is extremely important "that you come away from that instrument and practice your...voice on its own."

She also distinguishes between practicing and simply singing through your songs and states the latter is "not practice, that's singing through your songs." If you're stuck on finding exercises, she can certainly provide you many so that you can properly train your voice.

St Leger also shares one "little secret for vocalists to improve very rapidly," which is to work on your articulation. "Articulation for me is the key to singing really, really well." She explains that articulation is singing through the vowels properly so that every vowel sound you create is clean and precise. "This is where so many people get it wrong," she says, as people spend too much time on simply singing through the songs rather than analyzing them.

Furthermore, St Leger states, "you can't really sing a consonant" as every time you do, your mouth shuts, so it is very critical to get off the consonants and "onto the vowel sounds as soon as possible."

St Leger offers video calls, feedback and more tips (similar to the one featured in this blog) on the platform. She looks forward to meeting and mentoring you.
